Community Events

The LGH Foundation is grateful to be the beneficiary of events organized by members of the community.  Some of these events are held annually and others are one-time events.  The LGH Foundation is pleased to offer a brochure called "What you need to know about Organizing a Successful Event" to individuals or community groups who are planning to hold an event benefitting the hospital. For dates of upcoming events, please check the Calendar of events.  Some examples of recent community events include:

Avon's "Paint it Pink" Day

The LGH Foundation was proud to particpate in Avon's Paint it Pink Day, in aid of women who require medical care.  The event was held at Avon's Pointe-Claire headquarters on June 23rd, 2009.

Lakeshore Light Opera

For over 50 years, the Lakeshore Light Opera has thrilled West Island audiences with its Gilbert & Sullivan productions.  Its enchanting performances, breathtaking costumes and scenery make it a part of everyone’s list of “not to be missed” annual events.  Performances take place in February and March.

The 2008 performance of Ruddigore is not to be missed.  For more information contact them.

Cultural Communities Days Series

In order to promote awareness of the rich cultural fabric of the West Island, cultural communities are encouraged to participate in the Cultural Communities Days. To date, Hellenic, Filipino, Indian and Palestinian communities have come to the Lakeshore General Hospital and offered a taste of their native foods, music, clothing, literature and wares.  All proceeds from the sale of food and merchandise is donated to the LGH Foundation.

Becket Players

Since 1988, The Becket Players Foundation has donated over $112,000 to the Birthing Centre and the Pediatrics Clinic.  The Becket Players holds an annual gala with a musical show and Vegas-style cabaret running from April to May at the Dollard des Ormeaux Civic Centre.  For information, visit www.becketplayers.ca or contact 514-465-3029.

Career Day

Career day

The LGH Foundation held Career Day on February 11 and 12, 2008 for graduating students from local high schools.  Over 140 students from 11 different schools accepted the invitation and participated in one of the four two-hour orientation sessions. Students were able to obtain information and personally see the different career opportunities that are available in hospitals. They participated in guided tours of the Hospital and met with health care professionals.

We hope that these two days will yield positive results and encourage young people from our high schools to consider careers in health care.

A group of Grade 7 students from St. Thomas High School spent time in November 2007 constructing colorful, lively ornaments which we proudly displayed on our Community Wall in the main corridor of the Hospital.

Our thanks to the grade 11 students who organized and supervised the festive craft session.
